2. Our Proprietary Curriculum System
As overseas Chinese education grows rapidly, most available textbooks are still developed in mainland China. However, the cultural background, learning style, and educational environment of overseas students differ greatly from those in China. As a result, many domestic textbooks fail to meet the actual needs of children growing up abroad.
Led by Ms. Yang Guang, a veteran in overseas Chinese education, our team has developed a fully localized and pedagogically effective curriculum. Carefully structured and rich in content, it has produced excellent learning outcomes for students across all levels.
Our curriculum covers 10 levels—Kindergarten through Grade 8, plus AP Chinese. Each level includes our in-house designed textbooks, corresponding workbooks, character writing practice books, and an online homework platform.
Through this comprehensive, leveled progression system, students gradually build a solid foundation in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Chinese. Many of our students have gone on to achieve outstanding scores in Chinese SAT II and AP exams, as well as pass HSK Level 4 or above, administered by Hanban.

📘 Curriculum Highlights:
A. Rich and Diverse Content
Our materials include a wide range of topics—from traditional Chinese stories to modern children’s literature—combining knowledge with fun, and staying relevant to today’s learners.
B. Leveled Progression with Balanced Difficulty
The curriculum introduces high-frequency characters early and builds upon them through logical, connected lessons. Students learn 300 characters in their first year and reach over 2,000 by the end of the program. This balanced pace avoids both oversimplification and unrealistic acceleration, making it ideal for motivated overseas learners.
C. Pinyin Instruction
Pinyin is introduced starting in Beginner Class, but character recognition is taught directly. Our approach avoids overreliance on pinyin and encourages natural character learning.
D. Reading and Character Learning Are Equally Emphasized
Each lesson includes close reading during class and leveled reading afterward. Materials include historical tales, fables, myths, idiom stories, and works by both Chinese and international contemporary authors, helping students retain characters and build reading confidence.
E. Writing Instruction
We emphasize recognition before reproduction. Teaching the strokes, stroke order, radicals, and structural patterns of Chinese characters helps students develop sound handwriting skills efficiently.
F. Tiered Chinese Culture Curriculum
This is a signature feature of Youguang Chinese. Starting from Level 1, students explore Chinese culture in a progressive, age-appropriate manner—from symbols and geography to customs and traditions—fostering a deeper understanding and sense of identity with Chinese heritage.

Class Frequency: Once a week
Class Duration: 2 hours per session
Total Lessons: 34 sessions per school year
Schedule: From early September to mid-June of the following year (no classes on public holidays)

Rate: CAD $25.00/hour (tax included)
Annual Total: CAD $1,700.00
Discounts
Early Bird Discount:
During the annual enrollment season (May–June), families can enjoy a 10% early bird discount,
saving CAD $170.00 on the full-year tuition.
Sibling Discount:
For families with more than one child enrolled, the second child receives a 20% discount,
saving CAD $340.00 for the school year.
